Why is it so hard to pinpoint exactly where some electronic beeping sounds are coming from?

I would hear the slightest beep sound, every few seconds for years in my living room. Mind you it wasn’t 24/7 it would stop for a bit and start up again. Sounded like it was outside and didn’t look into, finally couldn’t handle it anymore and searched madly in silence trying to find this infamous phantom sound. I have a Roomba underneath a table, and turns out when the bin was full and the light would flash on/off the flashing of the light was the sound I was hearing
