Because you fill your stomach with gas. Normally, when you drink fizzy drinks, the saliva in your mouth releases most of the gas. But if you chug it, the gas is released when the drink hits your oesophagus and your stomach acid.

Not pleasant. Your body senses stuff in your throat and shuts things down.
