Genetic hard coded. As animals, we strive to copulate for the species survival. After the fact, we have “achieved” we feel no need to redo it. So we take a nap.

The logical follow-on question is why (in evolutionary terms) are women able to orgasm multiple times with only a brief gap in between? Is ensuring the propagation of their genes reliant on multiple inseminations?

There is no evolutionary benefit in maintaining an interest in sex if you already are out of sperm and whe continuing to have sex would just make you spend energy without making it more likely for your genes to survive.

There is an evolutionary deficit in having sex, spending time and energy, when that doesn’t increase the chances of gene survival.

But it’s not just a human thing. It applies to a lot of species. This trait goes wayyyy back in time.

While many men do lose interest after orgasm, not all of them do. Some men have a very short or even no refractory period. It varies by individual.
