Why is it that something as small as a phone can have great battery life yet Laptops with a bigger footprint can only last 6-8 hours?

Compared to a phone, a laptop has a much more powerful processor, a fan, and a big screen. The laptop’s components are more power-hungry, so even a bigger battery doesn’t last as long.
