Why is oversleeping bad for you?

Why is it actually bad for you? I know you’re at greater risk for heart disease and other things, but why?

Okay, so imagine your body is like a car. Just like a car needs the right amount of gas to go, your body needs the right amount of sleep to work best. If you don’t get enough sleep, you’re like a car with not enough gas: it can’t go very far and doesn’t work well.

But if you put too much gas in the car, it can’t hold all of it, and it might spill or cause problems. It’s kind of like that with sleep, too. If you sleep too much, your body starts to get a little lazy, and certain parts might not work as they should. Your heart, which is like the engine of the car, might not pump blood as well because it’s used to being more relaxed from all the extra sleep. And just like a car engine that doesn’t run often, some of the parts can start to get problems.

Also, when you’re sleeping, you’re not moving much, so your body doesn’t get to exercise or be strong. It’s like if the car is always parked and never driven, some parts might stop working as well because they’re not being used.

So, just like a car needs the right amount of gas, your body needs the right amount of sleep: not too little and not too much, so you can run and play and do everything you need to do!
