Why is radiation poisoning contagious?

I know in a general sense what acute radiation poisoning does to the individual, but why can this person not be touched by anyone and kept in extreme isolation?

Radiation poisoning isn’t contagious–but it *does* destroy one’s immune system, in severe cases.

The reason they must be kept in isolation is because they’d die from the germs others brought to them.
