It is very easy to add an insane amount of sugar into your diet. Trying to add a similar amount of fat is difficult. For instance, the recommended amount of sugar in one day is 36 grams for a male. A single coke contains 39 grams of sugar. Even just two teaspoons of sugar in your coffee is 8 grams, or 1/4 of your daily sugar.
Sugar is okay in moderation, same as fats.
Sugar is a chemically high energy substance that’s easy to consume in excess and so our body will generally store it as fat, which is unhealthy in itself.
Additionally when we consume food, our pancreas responds by secreting insulin in order to facilitate uptake of glucose into the cells. This is normal and healthy. However, a diet laden in sugar will keep your blood sugar levels higher for longer, forcing your cells to compensate by developing insulin resistance- which can lead to developing diabetes.
Sugar causes your body to produce insulin to break it down. This can lead to diabetes and blood sugar issues over time. In addition, we did didn’t evolve to eat as much sugar as we do now and when it hits the liver, sometimes the liver freaks out and turns it into the bad cholesterol.
Fat can also be also used as energy, but there is no insulin spike and very little evidence that dietary cholesterol is tied to blood cholesterol.
Fats are good for you.
