The Protests in Hong Kong at the moment have gained enormeous traction, but no authorities in the west seemed to have commented, why is that?

I actually watched a video on YouTube about the protests, it was from The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. And I get a lot of international news from comedy news talk shows i.e. Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj or Last Week Tonight by John Oliver. Sad but can’t remember the last time I watched regular news, I now get my news from Reddit or comedians
