– why is working a manual labor job (construction, manufacturing, etc) destructive to your body but going to the gym every day isn’t?

I’m an electrician and a lot of the older guys at my job have so many knee and back issues but I always see older people who went to the gym every day look and feel great

1-2 hours usually 4-6 times a week doing controlled exercise in good form with breaks VS 8-12 hour shifts 5 days a week at least with minimal breaks and often no consideration for posture or injury.
