why most plants are so hard to grow

After starting an internship in agriculture, I got frustrated at the difference between the things we plant, we care for, we trim, we water, we make nice beds for, and the « weeds » that’ll just grow anywhere anyway.

Edit : I am mostly interested in manual, organic agriculture. But if you have answers concerning industrial farming I’m still listening.

Cultivated plants have been selected for specific traits, such as size, taste, etc by humans. Because modern crops have been cultivated and cared for, they do t necessarily need to be tough. That’s what the humans are for! Weeds, on the other hand, have been selected by nature to grow under varied, sometimes harsh conditions. In other words, weeds have evolved to be better survivors than agricultural plants, which have been cared for by humans.

I’d guess because you don’t know what they like. People who can grow plants understand different plants like different conditions.

Water, sun, soil type and pH. All these things can make or break your plant.
