Even at lighter tensions, how does targeted band-work actually help the body recover so well when other compound and isolation movements with weighted loads recruit the very same muscles and tendons?
I have a shoulder injury that requires band-work but I just can’t wrap my head around why bands will work better to strengthen minor muscles and tendons to prevent pain when they should all be recruited in many movements regardless.

Not a ELI5 but to my knowledge unless they incorporate some instability work to take advantage of bands oscillating resistance they don’t.
Mostly they’re prescribed because they’re cheep and much more accessible than a 1-3k adjustable functional trainer.
For some movements bands are better because they add resistance as the body moves into a stronger position, but for other movements that’s not a good idea (ie if adding resistance while the joint is in a dangerous position)
Elastic bands provide resistance that gradually increases throughout the movement instead of being static. When you pick up a kettlebell, it’s putting your joints under 25 pounds of stress from the moment it leaves the floor. If you use a band, you might start the movement with 2 pounds of force and end with 25.
