Why upgrading internet speed doesn’t happen instantly and why it can take up to a day.

If you must know, yes. I just upgraded my internet. I may be impatient but also curious as to why this doesn’t happen instantly with a press of a button?

mainly because a software update has to be pushed to your cable modem which updates your networks capabilities and that software update push doesn’t happen immediately because the billing/customer service system and the backend/technical network management system are not linked together. back in the day when cable modems were newer tech, people were “hacking” their cable modems by uploading custom config files to it which “uncapped” the limits set by the ISP’s, the ISP’s took note and started banning people’s accounts who did that.

Several reasons, it depends on your technology.

If the Speed was capped, they need to push a new firmware on your router and also “validate” you on their system. This take time to do.

If you are switching technology, let Say from an Adsl to a Vdsl, they need to actually send a guy that change where your phone line is attached.
(And probably you need a new router, but idk, maybe nowaday all the adsl router are also vdsl)
