why was the steering column a/c vent phased out

You might know it as the gooch cooler or the balls chiller but balls or no balls that would be strongly appreciated on a hot summer day, so why is it never seen in more modern vehicles?

Probably more complex to have that duct and connection in the steering column. One more thing to disconnect and deal with in the process of manufacturing and in repair work.

But the main reason is modern AC/heat. It’s just so good, if you seal the car you can bring the temp down quickly, old cars could not, so they’d duct some AC (or just air) right into your body to help. You are still sweating in the hot car, but the extra air is helpful. Modern cars you can run like a fridge lol.

Also, heated/cooled seats also make that extra duct needless.
