Why we scream when we got hurt

We’re social creatures, it’s in our very DNA to communicate with other humans around us. So a lot of our instinctive behavior comes down to communication on some level. And screaming when we get hurt gives a couple of useful warnings to people within earshot:

1. I’m hurt and I need help.
2. There might be something dangerous over here.

So it might help my survival to scream if there are people around who would be willing to help me out. And it will definitely help others’ survival if I’m being attacked by something dangerous and they decide to stay away from the area that my scream came from.
