doctor here:

body senses you’re about to throw up, you salivate before you do to protect the linings of your throat and teeth from the stomach acids. the saliva forms a slight barrier in that sense.

the feeling underneath the jaw could be a few things:
– your salivary glands working
– your throat muscles tightening to “seal off” your windpipe so the food you swallowed earlier doesn’t go into your lungs

hope this helps!

It’s a protection mechanism for our mouth/esophagus.

When we throw up stuff from our highly acidic stomach comes up and essentially coats our mouth and esophagus. The body knows when you’re about to throw up (because, well, it’s the one making you throw up), so it increases saliva production to “pre-emptively” coat your mouth so it’s not damaged by stomach acid.
