Why/What causes the extreme salivation and weird feeling underneath our jaw before we throw up?

It’s a protection mechanism for our mouth/esophagus.

When we throw up stuff from our highly acidic stomach comes up and essentially coats our mouth and esophagus. The body knows when you’re about to throw up (because, well, it’s the one making you throw up), so it increases saliva production to “pre-emptively” coat your mouth so it’s not damaged by stomach acid.
