Your eye contains a system of physical systems that use the properties in real, physical space (meaning shape, distance, etc.) to create an image. If you change those properties by changing the shape of the eye (via contact lenses or just plain ol’ poking the eye with a finger) you change the image the eye creates. Similarly if the eye’s physical properties change, parts get thicker, or longer, or shorter etc. you get vision problems like astigmatism or near/far sightedness.
