This is more likely that your short naps are a result of you having a lack of sleep, thus requiring the nap. As such, you were more sleepy prior to the nap.
Since the nap was short and your body did not go through a full sleep cycle, there was not enough recovery to feel that much less groggy / sleepy than before the nap.
Whereas a full 8 hour sleep cycle, your brain and body goes through the natural stages of sleep and is naturally woken up having had a requisite amount of sleep.
