Why would allergy shots get rid of my dog allergy, but living with my dog for 10 years won’t?

Allergy shots require you to get injected with massive amounts of antigen, regularly, for years. Your dog puts out just enough antigen to mildly/moderately piss off your immune system. Imagine the shots as being like sitting with 100 dogs, all day, every day. Eventually, the system gets overwhelmed and just stops responding.
