Why would one TV struggle to get reception when another one gets great reception when using the same antenna?

So my family has a older first generation HD TV that struggles to get 5 channels when hooked up to a digital TV antenna, however my newer TV that is 3 years old get 20 channels when hooked up to the same antenna. Now I understand the obvious it’s a newer TV so it has better technology answer, but I’m curious about what makes the newer TV get much better reception when I was under the assumption that your antenna would play the biggest role in it.

I really struggled to find analogy for this, so it’s a bit brief.

Basically it comes down to signal processing. Think of it like a puzzle. Your antenna delivers a bunch of puzzles to you. Some people find it easy to do a 2000 piece puzzle, others give up after 500 pieces. The TV has to do it many times a second. For each channel, if it can get enough of the puzzle pieces worked out, the TV will display it. If it can’t, it doesn’t show.

Your newer TV is better at putting together the puzzle pieces.
