Evolution has 2 major aspects.
1. Minor differences in DNA reproduction. This even applies to identical twins. This is how new genes develop.
2. Extinction style events. That’s when the real evolution happens. The so called survival of the fittest. This is how old genes disappear.
Because we modify our environment, we probably won’t evolve in the surviving harsh conditions kind. We have, however, been evolving faster than ever in human history.
The answer appears to be yes for humans, and faster than anyone understands, and for reasons no one understands.
As for other species, I assume 1) and 2) will be dominant in their evolution.
Be careful, though. Evolution doesn’t mean more complex, or simpler. It doesn’t mean bigger or smaller. It doesn’t mean smarter, or more efficient. It means survival.
evolution will always be happening, as long as genes are passed to offspring and some organisms reproduce more than others. Even in humans, we are undergoing natural selection. The things being selected for are not the same as 50,000 years ago, but when one person never gets married and dies without children, and one person has a family of 8, selection is happening.
