Would you feel pain with a broken/severed nervous system?

The question is a bit weird, so I’ll clarify.
To my knowledge, the brain is part of the nervous system, which is what lets you feel things. If the brain was severed from the rest of the system (Like at the base of the skull) would you feel pain there or would you just feel nothing?

According to Travis Roy, who was paralyzed from the neck down after an accident playing hockey, he simply felt nothing past the point of damage. Not pain, or numbness, or comfort, just nothing. Just like there is no sensory input from behind your head, there are no signals for the brain to interpret past the point of injury.
