Why can’t you take medication to get rid of plantar warts like any other virus?

In: Biology

Because most viruses aren’t curable with medication. They can treat symptoms, but not cure.

You typically don’t take medication to kill viruses unless that virus is going to kill you.

Viruses are not exactly living. They hide in your own cells and make more of themselves.

Drugs that kill viruses, typically kill your cells too.

This is why when you get a cold or a flu, the only medication doctors *should* give you are ones that make your symptoms go down.

Most viruses cannot be gotten rid of through medication. There are few effective anti-virals (as opposed to antibiotics that target bacteria). Colds are viruses, and meds will alleviate symptoms while the body fights the viral infection, but the meds don’t help get rid of the virus. Tamiflu is an antiviral, and there are some HIV antivirals, and some others as well. But for the most part, only the immune system can rid the body of a virus.
