Did i win the sperm race by random luck?

Was I the fastest/most capable sperm, or was it just random luck that I made it into the egg first? Or was it a bit of both?

The first sperm to the egg is rarely the sperm that fertilizes the egg.

So yes, it was very much random which sperm actually fertilized the egg that turned into you.

And even if it were the first sperm, how that sperm ended up first was mostly random too.

Nope. You’re good old middle of the road.

The slow, sluggish and deformed sperm just dribble out and generally go round in circles.

The fast strong sperm get their first and start breaking down the outer membrane of the ovum. But it’s a tough job and takes many a good sperm to get it thin enough.

So then some bog standard, run of the mill, median average jizzer just skips on in a does the business.

Bit of both. A slow poke would have never made it. But the fastest guy maybe don’t go down the right route and ended up in a dead end.

Maybe 100 better sperm all arrived at same time and you just hit the egg in a thin spot on its membrane.

There are enough competing at the same time to put “random luck” in your column.

Remember, there are millions that don’t make it, though, so…

Look in the mirror. Do you look like the fastest and most capable child your parents could have had?

What I find interesting is that you’re identifying yourself with the sperm. The sperm is “I” but there’s just “the egg”, even though you’re as much made up of one as the other.
