Does gravity affect the direction in which a plant grows? If so, how?

Yes, plants drop roots down and grow leaves towards the light.

They determine “down” by concentration gradient – suspended solids collect towards the bottom of the cells.

Yes it’s called geotropism. It is one of the factors that effects plant growth along with phototropism. Geotropism means the roots will grow in the direction of gravity. Phototropism means leaves and shoots will grow towards the sun.
