Eli5: Pointy end of a hammer

Question

I know there are hammers for additional use like the once for pulling wood closer or lifting a nail out but i have no idea why there is that flat pointy end on a normal hammer

There is also a tack hammer or upholstery hammer that has a narrow head for hammering tacks and small nails.
