Like a constant tonsils tickling one that goes on and off for a few days, wakes you up at night, and drives you mad.

Probably postnasal drip — secretions from the nose that drain down into the throat, causing congestion, throat tickles, and cough. Postnasal drip is usually caused by allergies or the common cold. Postnasal drip can also be caused by cold temperatures, dry air, hormonal changes, certain foods, chemical irritants, and nasal sprays. Source: Mayo Clinic
