Imagine an arrow being shot into a wall. Going into the wall, it comes in at a point and expands the opening as the arrowhead transitions in place from point to broad tail. If you try to pull the arrow out, what comes out is that broad tail- it’s a different shape than the finer point.

This is also why if you get something lodged in your body you’re kinda better off leaving it in until you get proper medical attention- to remove it causes more damage bc of the same principle.
