Eli5: Why wasn’t the disaster of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 ever solved?

It’s widely accepted that this was another murder suicide flight – to add to a growing list of such incidents over the decades. However to absolutely prove this it is necessary to find the wreck at the bottom of the ocean and hope that the Cockpit Voice Recorder has useable data.
