South Texas resident that spent a LOT of the summer months without a shirt while growing up. The first couple of days after school let out, that peach white skin burned pretty easily. As the summer went on, you could stay out longer and longer without a burn. Could have passed for an illegal immigrant by the end of the summer.

Medical basis for this? None what so ever, just how it happened. Long term damage? Likely. Don’t think about stuff like that as a kid.

The suns rays are not consistent as you move north or south of the equator.

While it can be sunny any hot in Ireland; it’s not through direct radiation of the suns rays.

TLDR – the uv rays are more powerful towards the equator

The sun is too strong near the equator and sends you straight into a burn. But where it’s less strong further up north, it allows you to tan.

Nutrition can play an amazingly large role. I’ve historically tanned easily and not had issues with sunburn. The last few years had been very different, until I started protein supplementation (specifically high lysine). Bizarre side effects – skin issues and sunburns gone. I have no idea why my normal diet would be deficient enough for this to make such a tangible difference.
