One of the main things toothpaste does is help remove plaque/left over food from your teeth. If you brush your teeth, then eat something, and then go to sleep, you’re spending the whole night with that remnants of food on your teeth. It’s better for them if that’s not there, which is why it’s best to brush your teeth right before bed.

You do have that as the case during the day, but always brushing your teeth immediately after eating isn’t considered practical and it is possible to over brush your teeth, so typically twice a day is seen as sufficient/good.

Not to me mention, you shouldn’t brush your teeth right after eating. Your saliva produces enzymes that start the process of breaking your food down and it softens your tooth enamel. Wait an hour after eating to balance the ph in your mouth.

Flouride in toothpaste is only effective if it stays on your teeth for several minutes after brushing. Eating food right after bruahing destroys the Flouride before it reacts with your enamel, leaving your teeth unprotected.
