How do animals perceive the continuity of a single being? Do they know that my right hand and my left hand are the same being? What about a group of people, do animals see them as a single thing?

OP you think this ability only arose in humans? Watch any ape doc or hunting sequence and its obvious animals have intimate knowledge of other bodies. A chimp grooming a mate or a lion targeting a herd animal is direct evidence of this.
