There’s no recurring cost to developing an app. a lot of developers do it as a hobby and any money is incidental. if you combine that with a main job, it’s enough to cover the costs of listing your app, and maybe buying some development hardware. it can strengthen your CV and increase your employment prospects.
1. They make money off of ads
2. The average ad income per user over their “career” using the app is smaller than 1$.
So basically you are offered a way to “buy out” your “share” from the ad income and not see ads, while the people who opt not to do so still supply some income to the developer.
