How do mothers carrying more than three babies survive?

122 viewsBiologyOther

From what I know the baby takes much of the nutrients such as calcium from the mother, so how do mothers that have 5, 6 or, even eight babies (at once) not die? Even with appropriate healthcare I saw a diagram of what a single baby does to a woman’s guts and it’s all shifted— my mother could barely breathe carrying me.

A normal pregnancy is 40-ish weeks, but most triplets are born after only 32, 8 weeks early. This isn’t good for them and significant specialized care is required for the baby’s to survive.
