how does A product ambassadorship work? And what do you do/what are the perks?

The role is similar to a sales rep. But unlike the sales rep, an ambassador is not there to make the sale. Their job is to go out and drum up interest in a product (in my case air handlers). The ambassador comes into my office, does a dog and pony show so I can see how much better their product is than the competition’s air handler. So next time you are thinking about an air handler, think about US. His job is to make the new product look good and make sure his pitch reaches a receptive audience. Once he is done with his presentation, he packs his bags and goes down the street to the next engineering firm. They spend a lot of time on the road, and can do cross country jaunts to hit as many firms as possible. The ambassador stays high level and doesn’t get into project particulars. They are expected to know their product inside out so they can answer screwball questions that are thrown at them.

Later When I call back and say “hey I want to design/specify/buy an air handler” the product ambassador hands me off to a local sales rep that will go through the nuts and bolts of my needs and put together a package that is tuned to my project.

The ambassador is there to find new places to sell the product, the sales rep is there to bring in the sale and retain previous clients for future sales.
