Maybe the bitterness of the coffee complements the sweetness of the sugar-sweetened chocolate?
I’ve never considered it, before. Now you got me curious to see what others suggest.
I guess similar to how salt brings out the flavours in baked sweets. Cocoa enhances the flavour of chilli.
Both coffee and chocolate have caffeine, and they are also roasted during production. They both have similar taste profiles, hence they can enhance each other’s tastes.
