How does drinking a lot of water help our body?

The more the water we drink the more the need we have to pee. So how does it actually help your body when it only consumes the amount of water it requires for its functioning and releases the extra one. Basically i am confused why Doctors recommend drinking 8 or more glasses of water when our body doesn’t retain much of it

Doctors do not recomend drinking 8 or more glasses of water a day. You are confusing doctors with water bottle manufacturers. You are quite right that the body will get rid of any excess water. In fact drinking too much water can damage your kidneys and mess with your mineral balance, or even if you are not able to pee you might die from too much water as your nerves stop working.

The real advice from doctors is to drink when you are thirsty but not more. Your pee should be golden and not clear.
