I assume that is due to most injuries.

By getting stronger muscles in an injuried area, the muscles help giving support.

If you damage a knee you train your leg to help support damaged ligaments and such.

Bones get stronger in the broken area, but tendons and ligaments and such often don’t get as strong as before the injury. Muscles help support these weaker areas and help recovery.

Also, by doing the right exercises you also slowly train the area which helps recovery.
