How does the steroid Cortisone work?

Question

I know it helps reduce swelling and inflamation, but _how_? Does it block the chemicals your body uses to cause inflamation and swelling? Or does it force your body to produce the chemicals needed to _stop_ inflamation and swelling? Or does it work in a completely different way?

Suppresses your immune system and (especially) inflammation. Helps avoid situations where your body’s response to an infection is worse than the infection itself.
