How does walking affect your body?

I understand that it decrease diseases and improve overall health but why? Like how does walking make your health better? Does it activate something in your brain? Or increase blood flow? Or idk… I just want to know why does walking everyday improve your health, thanks in advance

walking can increase heart rate (if starting at the lower end of physical fitness) and aide in blood circulation

depression is a HUGE after effect in senior citizens after breaking a hip and losing the ability to be mobile
