If you made a pile of bacteria/viruses big enough to be seen by the human eye, what would it be like?

What would it look like in terms of color and texture? Also, how would it feel to the touch? Powdery, spongy, almost liquid? What would it smell like? (I know you can smell gas released by bacteria, but the bacteria itself?) Would any of those change depending on the exact species?

I know bacteria and viruses already have visible effects on a macro scale but what I’m seeing always seems to be another material affected by them (skin in the case of warts for example) and not them directly.

Bacteria can form large groups of cells called colonies that can be seen by the naked eye. The easiest way to see this is cultured bacteria grown in Petri dishes. You could see bacteria on rotting things as well, although you could also see mold colonies as well. Typically they would have a slimy texture. They are different colors for different species. People who work in labs can often tell some of the common ones apart by their smells.

You could never see viruses with the naked eye. They need living cells to reproduce, so they can’t form a large colony that we could see

You can search up bacterial colonies. It is basically just growing loads of bacteria, and you can see it with your eyes
