In what ways do glasses and contacts work differently?

How do these two things used to correct our vision differ in their working mechanism to achieve better vision?

They both operate under the same basic concept – both are a lens, that distorts and/or magnifies light coming into your eyes so that it focuses onto your retina properly.

The difference is that glasses are a few cm away from your eyeballs, and contacts are directly on your eyeballs.
