Did you know that people used to be able to buy things with pennies?
Now many countries have started to remove pennies because inflation has made them worthless.
Well some countries went through some bad times and had really bad inflation and/or loss of faith in their money.
So inflation made their 1 dollar notes like the penny, so they started printing notes with bigger numbers on them, just so they could be easily used. (EG you don’t have to buy a loaf of bread with stack of notes the size of a paper back novel)
Indonesia has had a series of bad financial problems in the second half of the 20th century that lead to them inflating the currency a lot.

Ever play the original [Super Mario Brothers](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/50/NES_Super_Mario_Bros.png)?

See the score in the upper left?

The score is now 4250.

Great.

When your score goes up, it only adds in increments of 10.

So you can have 4260, 4270, 4280 …. but you can’t ever have 4283.
It only goes up in increments of 10.

So … if that’s the case, then … isn’t that the same as saying your score is 426, and only goes up in increments of 1?

I mean, everything’s the same, right? It’s just that everything is multiplied by 10. But it’s really all the same when you think about it.

That’s the same way it is with currency. It really doesn’t matter how big the number is. You could take 1,000,000 Rp and call it “1 mega-rupiyah”, it would mean the same thing, right?
