I have to assume you’re talking about vultures. These birds soar on up currents in a circle, often waiting for an animal to die, or for predators to leave their kill
Sometimes they’re using the natural difference in pressures to keep themselves in the air with minimal effort while waiting to do something else like hunting or another bird before they fly off. They can be pushed upwards almost indefinitely I think
