In philosophy, ontology is the study of existence, or being. What does it mean to say a thing is, or that it exists? For example, if you catch a fish and eat it, at what point does it stop being a fish? What is it about that thing that makes it a fish, and if you take those things away when does it stop being that fish?
Epistemology is the study of knowledge. What do we mean when we say we know something? How can you be sure? What is the difference between opinions, beliefs, and knowledge? Are there things the human mind cannot grasp? How do you know?
