What do little birds do in major storms?

We had rainstorms here recently that bowed the trees down and really shook the leafs of the canopy. We were fully expecting to see a lot of dead birds around the next day, but then realized: that never seems to happen. How do they survive?

Being a bit wet and blown about isn’t likely to outright *kill* even small birds, at most it would be very uncomfortable. The birds simply hunker down and wait out the weather. They can do this in sheltered areas of trees such as nooks and crannies closer to the trunk, or just a bigger tree where the outer boughs soak up most of the wind. Other options are to move closer to the ground and hide in areas like bushes which are less exposed to the wind. It is even possible for birds to just sit on the ground if there is nowhere else to be!

In really bad storms a lot of birds will hide in bushes rather than trees, they wedge themselves in as close to the center as possible and prop themselves against multiple branches so they don’t get blown away.
