What happens to any animals that are onboard a plane when a water landing occurs?

The sinking of the Titanic was a disaster for the people but a miracle for the lobster in the kitchen. They will die. Everyone will be concerned about saving themselves and other people. I doubt anyone will risk their lives if they even think about the animals in the cargo hold.
