IP or “Ingress Protection” rating, is the level an item is rated to protect from water or dust getting inside. The first number is the rating for how much dust and particulates are able to get inside, and the second number is for how protected the item is against water. Each rating means something different, but in general, the higher the number, the better. The maximum rating for dust is 6 and the highest rating for water is 8. So something that is IP68 is *almost* completely waterproof and dustproof (nothing can truly be waterproof, but this is as good as it gets).
