And is it required for a phone to be able to handle any amount of water?

The first number is the intrusion level, 0/1 you can get you hand or fingers in to the enclosure, 6 is dust tight.

The second number is the moisture protection, 0/1 no protection, 8 immersion under pressure so you can chuck it in the lake and water won’t get in. Caveat, there will be a time limit on this.

You can fund the meaning of the numbers [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code)

The first number is solid particles and 6 is Dust-tight .

The second I liquid and 8 is ” Immersion, 1 meter (3 ft 3 in) or more depth ” the test time is at least 30 minutes.

Soo I watched a video a while back that explains Ip and I think the numbers means the how long a phone can be submerged underwater. Like for example an ip67 rating can handle 1 meter of water for 30 minutes and ip68 can handle 4 meters of water for 30 minutes. I also think there’s a old Nokia phone that has a ip69 rating so it can handle radiation

IP or “Ingress Protection” rating, is the level an item is rated to protect from water or dust getting inside. The first number is the rating for how much dust and particulates are able to get inside, and the second number is for how protected the item is against water. Each rating means something different, but in general, the higher the number, the better. The maximum rating for dust is 6 and the highest rating for water is 8. So something that is IP68 is *almost* completely waterproof and dustproof (nothing can truly be waterproof, but this is as good as it gets).
