What is that “clock ticking” sound that you sometimes hear in your head when you lay with your ear pressed to a pillow?

It’s the sound of blood pumping through your ear with each heart beat. Each ticking sound matches a beat of the heart. If, you take your pulse on your wrist or neck, it’s the same thing; pumping blood. We just happen to be able to hear in our ear when positioned a certain way since it’s occurring right there.
